Thanks for the information. How do you tell of the flywheel is bad other
than having missing teeth? I know the pressure plate is warped, and will be
replaced with the clutch.

This doesn't sound so bad. Think I'll order up everything necessary and
prepare for an upcoming job.

needed!

Your change will be a little different from mine. I did mine on a 5.2L 4x4
and
didnt have to raise the truck up at all. I also didnt take the trans
completely
out of the truck. What I had to do, besides unbolting the expected stuff,
was
unbolt the exhaust piping from the manifold and pull it down enough to slide

the trans back using my skid plate as some support. I put a jack under my
oil
pan so that the engine wouldnt drop (use a piece of wood between the jack
and
oil pan). The less you move your trans is a key. The transmition is not
really
that heavy at all, so you should not have much trouble shoving and pushing
it
around. You only want to slide the trans far enough back so that the shaft
of
the trans is beyond your pressure plate so that you can pull all that stuff
off. The clutch set I got from NAPA (around $230) came with the the clutch,
pressure plate, throw out bearing, and clutch alighnment tool. Like I said,
I
dont have any complaints with the generic brand from NAPA. A couple hints if

you do the repair.

1. Get a bunch of plastic sandwich bags and some masking tape. As you take
bolts out, label where they came from and keep common systems in the same
bag.
2. check your flywheel and make sure it is in good shape. if the flywheel is

bad bite the bullet and get a new one. You dont want to chew up the new
clutch
less than 2 years from now.
3. Make sure you wash and dry your hands really good before putting the new
clutch on. Any grease or dirt on the flywheel, clutch, por ressure plate
will
kill the clutch prematurely (use plenty of brake cleaner).
4. Make sure you have enough extentions to put together to match the length
of
your arm, because you will need them.
