45E I think is what it's called.
There is only one automatic for the 4.7L and thats the multi-speed. Here's a
little back ground about it.
1.) Comes with it's own computer, a TCM
2.) Is a four speed tranny, but has 5 gears, Huh... There are two second
gears. One for upshifting and one for downshifting. The reason behind this is
to give the engine a usable gear lower than third to tow up hill, dropping into
a normal second while towing uphill would throw the RPMs very high. This down
shifting 2nd gear is also nice for freeway passing.
3.) It's roomered that this part is Diemler's doing. The drivechain has a
feature that retards the spark advance as it's shifting. Result: light
feeling, but low performance shifts. This is probably what your feeling in the
slow 1 to 2 shift.
Good luck finding anything to help the performance of the tranny. It's still
very new and I know of no upgrades.
