Isn't the front differential just like the rear where it is always
spinning the drive shaft even when the truck is in 2wd, so when you put
it in 4WD it engages the front drive shaft in the transfer case? If
this is the case and you were able to turn the front drive shaft by hand
with the front end on the ground, I'd say it's either a front CV joint
or the front diff.
