Hey Everyone!

We got back from our trip at 8:30 last night -- what a beautiful weekend. I
hope you all had a nice weekend as well :)

The '01 Dak did just fine. I gave him a new air filter and fresh Mobil 1
Thursday night. Our pop-up weighs in at 1,600 lbs. and we throw around 450
lbs. of cargo in the bed (chairs, luggage, grill, firewood, etc.). We
traveled 747 miles (scary number) from driveway to driveway and averaged
17.3 mpg with an average speed of 62mph. I set the cruise at 73mph on the
way up (US23 to I-75) and on the way home we took the scenic route (US23 all
the way to I-75 then to US23) thus the slower average speed. A trouble free
trip!

I had the kids stand in both Lake Huron and Lake Michigan while we were up
there for the photo album -- very cold water temp around 50 degrees. In case
you are not familiar with Mackinaw Island, there are no cars allowed (except
emergency crews), only horses and bicycles. So we rented two tandems for 1.5
hrs then rented a self-guided horse-drawn carriage for 1.5 hrs. It was a
spectacular day also, clear light wind 5-10 and 66 degrees.

If you have the opportunity, just go out of your city about 10 miles, away
from all the lights in the city. Check out the stars. It is just amazing
that there is that much room in space to have that many bodies floating
around! In the city you can only see the bright constellations (Big dipper,
etc.) but outside of the city you can see the Milky Way and beyond!! We
didn't even need our flashlights from the reflections of the stars! I had to
wait for the campfire to dwindle down before retiring for the evening for
about 1 hours, so I just stared up in awe. It was like looking at those 3-D
pictures you can buy at the stores....the more you looked at them, the more
depth they had. Wow.

Needless to say, we had a great time. It was good to escape the crap that
happened last week to celebrate our 10 years together and share it with our
kids.

I hope you all have a great week! May we all grow from what happened last
week.
