Hello,
I dont wanna get off on a rant or anything but.....:-).....
I'd like to talk alittle about Off Topic. As you know Off Topic is the
opposite of On Topic, which are the majority of the topics covered by this
group.
When I think of Off topic, I think of non On topic items..for example if I
entitled my subject Off Topic, thereby labelling the enclosed message Off
Topic, then I propose that this is an example of a well defined Off Topic
message. However, if I entitle the meesage subject header Off topic, but
include information pertinant to the DML community...does this make it Off
Topic.
Some would say yes, some would yell Nay.
Another example would be to entitle all On Topic items as On topic thereby
avoiding the confusion which often occurs by posting Off Topic messages in
an On topic format.
Not to get off the topic, but if you have a response to my off topic
comments, should that response be posted in off topic format??
What about a scenario in which there is no clear cut topic...would this mean
that the message is neither Off topic nor On topic...or does this represent
a unique set of circumstances in which the message is both Off and On topic.
When a DMLer complains about Off topic message, is this in fact an Off topic
message...and if so, should it be poisted elsewhere. One might argue that if
you are to post the response elswhere, noone would read it. Other might say
that noone reads those responses anyway.
I guess my whole point is that I don't have one...thereby making my message
a non topic. I'm unsure exactly where non topic fit as they are Off topics
nor are they On topic??
.....know what I mean :-)
