Hey All,
I am fairly new to the list and the world of the Dakota, so please bear
with the newbie ignorance. Most of my automotive knowledge lies with
the Mazda Rotary Engine and Independent Rear Suspension, so I am
unfamiliar with piston engines and solid rear axles.
Anyhow, on with my questions. I recently acquired a Green 99 V6 Club
Cab with just under 40,000 miles. I know that the V6 won't get the
greatest mileage, but I figure that what I am currently getting should
be better. I am getting right around 300 to a tank before the low fuel
light comes on, equating to about 18 MPG. This is about 225-250 highway
driving. The plugs are new, I just got rid of the Fram air filter that
was in there for an OEM filter, along with plug wires. I really don't
know about the cap and rotor or O2 sensors, is it possible that these
need to be changed also? Is there a web site that shows the schedule
for service?
Also, there is a disturbing popping coming from the passenger rear.
When ever I am making a right turn into a road that is going up from the
previous road, the rear will have a loud metal popping noise (it seems
to happen only when there is chassis flex). It is almost like a bolt
isn't tightened enough and a link is shifting and popping. I have been
under the truck and cannot find anything that looks loose. The swaybar
link was loose and that was replaced, but that only partly cured the
popping. Anyone experience this before? Anything that i am over
looking?
Much Thanks in advance
Carl Davis
