I'm curious as to how they "resealed" the housing. To do it right, they'd
have to remove the t-stat and housing entirely.

I had a small leak on my t-stat housing that I discovered when I swapped in
the 180 stat. To seal it up, I ground off the little nubs that are
supposed to help locate the housing properly, put sillycone on each side of
the gasket, and put it all together. Nearly a year later and not a drip.
