DAKOTA RECALLS
There are two Dodge's on the list of recalls that NHTSA released earlier
today. The first, effects 4,000 89-90 Dakotas' manufactured between October
1988 - June 1990. Specifically the 4x2 convertible pickup trucks equipped
with V6 engines and the 4x2 trucks equipped with the optional Shelby
package. On these vehicles the steering gear could potentially separate from
the vehicle frame causing loss of steering control.
Dealers will add reinforcements to the frame and have the steering gear
mounting bolts replaced. If the frame is already cracked, the steering gear
weld nuts will also be replaced. Chrysler began notifying owners last month.

The second recall involves 104,252 2001 Dakota Quad Cab trucks built in
March of 2001. On some of these trucks the front outboard lower seat belt
anchor bolts may not be tightened correctly. If this is the case, the anchor
may fail in an accident.
Dealers will inspect and tighten the driver and passenger side lower seat
belt anchor bolts. Chrysler began notifying owners of the effected trucks in
August. Owners can contact DaimlerChrysler at 1-800-853-1403 (for either of
these recalls). NHTSA Recall No. 01V233/DaimlerChrysler Recall No. 989
