My '95 made a annoying rattle too.
The welds on one corner of the heat shield on the catalytic converter gave
away.. It would rattle at different times.
I drilled the hole out and put in a screw with locknut to hold it in place.

Actually, my catalytic convertor (actually the heat shield) makes a
clattering sound right around 2800-3000 rpm. I guess it has to do with
harmonics. Mine's the 3.9 though.
