Dave,
Clutch release or engagement problems could be caused by fluid leaks at the
master or slave cylinders, loose slave cylinder bolts, or a worn or loose
release fork and pivot stud. You didn't indicate if the fluid level you
refer to is the transmission fluid. Check the clutch master cylinder fluid
level. It could also be a worn clutch disc or release bearing. With this
many miles, having the clutch replaced probably wouldn't be a bad idea and I
would certainly do this before I got into the transmission.
