Man, sorry to hear about your Dak!
Our company develops and manufactures these air bag modules. As was
mentioned before, it has nothing to do with what you hit. It all comes down
to the forces applied at the center of the vehicle. The forces traveling
through the frame are what is measured by the module. Be glad you did not
set off the bags -- Big bucks replacing the IP for the passenger side air
bag! The steering wheel is simple. Not cheap, but simple to replace.
