Yes they started in the late 60s and we used to have vented gas caps but the epa
said they did not want the fumes in the atmosphere so you know the rest. If you
seal of the vent you have to return to using a vented gas cap and I am not sure
you can do that on a fuel injected engine or any veichle with a feedback fuel
system.
