Hi all,
I wrote a question about swapping an A500 to A518, and I was kind of
surprised at the lack of information around about these transmissions. So I
talked to a guy I work with who used to be a Salesman at a local Dealership,
and he told me about the Chrysler service manuals, and that anyone can buy
the same book that the Dealerships use in their service departments. I went
to my local Dealer, (not the same one he worked for) and got this huge
run-around about how they are not supposed to sell the books to the general
public yada yada yada... I went online and found this site;
www.techauthority.daimlerchrysler.com
and all the books are right there, for sale, to anyone. My wife jumped in
and ordered me the manual for my 98 Dak for Christmas. At $90 a pop, they
are far from cheap, but it came yesterday and she let me look through it
just to make sure it was what I wanted. It has every single part of the
truck, complete with trouble shooting, disassembly, reassembly, part
numbers, and tool part numbers for specialty tools. It's about 500 pages,
and from the quick look I had of it before she took it and wrapped it up,
I'd say it's a must have for any serious home mechanic. Just thought I'd
share this for those who have a Haynes or Chilton's and look up "Transfer
Case" and get "Do to the complex nature of this unit, we recommend having a
qualified service center work on it. There for we do not include any
information on this unit" or some sh!t like that.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, or whatever you celebrate.
