John, i gotta disagree with you here...
While off-road, i would think it is less likely to get damage to your
drivetrain in 4x4 mode, because of the amount of slippage in the less than
ideal traction conditions.
And the size differences that we're talkin about here, 32 vs 31, 33 etc., i
really doubt you'd screw anything up mechanically.
Having said all that, if you're talking about offroading in higher traction
conditions, slick rock for example, than ya, there is a concern about the
diff. in overall circumference of a diff. tire.
