Hey Joel!
Thanks for the update! I had a hunch that was not the most secure app. I
will push these suggestions through the groups that use it.
Have a great week all!

Subject: DML: ICQ
To my fellow DML'ers,
Hello everyone. Recently while attending Network Security and
Administration school, when we were busy trying to find security
vulnerabilities in networking, we discovered that the ICQ instant messanging
client is full of holes.
To the point where information about you is being collected off of your hard
drive.... There is no way to block it, there is no way to block the default
port that ICQ uses (6667), because ICQ finds another way around it. ICQ is
so bad that if it can't find a way out through your local router, it will
reprogram the router to allow it to do so.
Ever been logged onto ICQ and it won't sign on, but you visit the
www.icq.com webpage and it says that the network is up? That's because what
it's doing in the repeated amount of times it tries to hook up, is it is
"punching a hole" through your system to get to the icq server.
Solution? Uninstall ICQ. If you have access to a firewall get one, if you
have access to BlackICE defender, get it. www.networkice.com
This is not a chain letter, this letter was written by Joel Esler, and I
request that you forward it to the people that you know use ICQ. I suggest
that we use AOLIM or YAHOO instant messenger, as both of these are more
sound.
Also the AOL networking protocol AOL 6.0 + 7.0 were designed by the same
people that invented ICQ, so AOL 6 + 7 may have the same bugs in it. Just a
word for the wise people. Email me @ joel.esler@us.army.mil if you have any
questions.
Joel
