The odo is on but stuck and the speedo doesn't register at all. I'll try to change the sensor.

Bob, does the odometer come on at all and just not register mileage, or is it out entirely? If it's on and just not registering, possibly it's your speed sensor, which will be on your tranny output shaft (you've got a '97, right?).
