The reason the factories recommend 10W30 and 10W40 is for CAFE (Corporate
Average Fuel Economy) ratings. Many recommend 5W30-thinner oil, less
resistance-but less oil pressure and less cushion for those rod and main
bearings.
And, 10W30 has less additives in it-they call it "friction modifiers". It's
recommended motorcycles with wet clutches not use it.
The thinner oils also have less additives that prevent "shearing" of the oil
molecules.
