Lora,
Glad to hear you are ok. Don't think the tires were your problem, but the
lack of rain we've had. We haven't had any rains to wash the oil/grease
build up off the roads. Just getting a single dump of rain on top of the
road sets up the ice ring conditions you describe.
Don't sell your tires short. The BFG AT's are fantastic tires. I've run
them in the past and have never found anything that comes close to the
tracton they provide in any conditions.

Subject: DML: Richmond, VA... RARGH! (Long!)
Well... for those helping me with my odd starting problem, everything just
got put on hold....
I was up in Richmond, VA yesterday for the FIRST Robotics competition at
Virginia Commonwealth University - and let me say, I've been on the border
of the sticks for around a month now in Tennessee, and apparently forgotten
how much I hate driving in cities. I was reminded of that yesterday.
I'm not sure how they pave their roads up there... but the one thing I
discovered last night is that my BF Goodrich AT's didn't have a chance on
the wet pavement up there. A freak 30 second deluge that stopped just as I
was turning onto Broad St.... a red light.... slick pavement... and 4 locked
wheels acting like I was on a skating rink.... you put two and two
together. ::bawl:: When I got out of the truck to make sure the driver of
the other car was alright, I almost slipped and fell on the pavement myself.
Actually, now that the shock of the whole thing has begun to wear off (it
was miserable trying to make a 400 mile drive after being in an accident) -
it's almost rather amusing. The two week old Chevy Malibu that stopped my
truck from carreening into the intersection and getting broadsided - no
longer has much of a trunk. The Dak? Well, she smudged a dime sized bit of
white paint from the Malibu on the bumper along with a little scuff mark (on
the bumper). The cop was astounded at the lack of damage to my truck while
the .
Unfortunately, I ended up with an accident to shoot my already high
insurance premiums up (I'm still a new driver, so having my first accident
is not a pleasant add on... particulary being a rear ender...) and a $60
ticket for "following too closely" which I can't fight since it was a rear
end collision, and heck, it would cost me about that in gas to get to the VA
courthouse and back anyway.
Though I can say one thing. I was looking to move to the Richmond area
before I came here to Knoxville... and as it stands right now, I don't plan
on EVER driving to Richmond again! Particulary if there is any rain in the
forecast.
