I agree, this horse has been rode so long it can't
even walk anymore, so I will drop it also. I just
wanted to say that when I worked there, we did have
catalogs and I did use them, though several people
wouldn't even try to open them, even though they were
right behind the counter. Also, whoever fired your
friends uncle for selling parts without looking them
up in the computer was an idiot. There was many a time
we bypassed the computer and as long as the person
knew what they were doing, there wasn't a problem with
it. The corporate policy is(or was)only to sell parts
that are listed for that specific vehicle because of
warranty issues.(no swapping)Also we didn't even sell
Autolite Plugs when I worked there, only the
Motorcraft version. Of course back then they were
smarter and didn't sell FRAM, all they did was talk
about how bad they were, and now they push them. I
guess money won out in the end over quality, huh?
<AZ's reason for that may be tort driven-they may be
<afraid of lawsuits
<stemming from misused parts. I could understand that,
<but if that is
<the
<case, why can you buy things off the shelf?
<Sorry for ranting about this, but if the guy at the
<<NAPA, Federated,
<Car
<Quest, etc can just go in back and get them, why
<can't the Zoners?
<The customer in question has an uncle who was fired
<from an Auto Zone
<for
<giving the customer what he asked for (SB Chebby plug
<wires) without
<using
<the computer. The guy had only been a parts store
<manager for 20 years,
<so
<it's not like he was an inexperienced rookie. His
<Auto Zone career
<lasted
<all of two days.
<Give the customer what they want, and you'll have a
<happy customer.
<I think I've beaten this horse to death, I'm done!
