Rich:
On my '00 I tried the stock boot, but it was a little tight. It fit, but not
well, and when you shifted into 3rd or 5th it would sometimes pop the boot
out of the console.
I used an old black leather coat and sewed up a new one. I cut the rubber
boot off of the metal base and glued the new leather one to it.
Underneath all this I wrapped closed cell foam around the shifter. One thing
I didn't like about the Hurst was the extra noise in the cab.
Seems to work pretty good. I am going to redo it with nicer leather.
I went out an took a picture. Please ignore the dirt inside the truck. Get
detailed as soon as the snow is gone!
