Punch,

You can grind/drill out the disc on the TB linkage and thread in a Holley
Carburetor Ball-Stud. This will fit the V6 cable.

Several '97+ (including 98 Dakota) have "converted" to the V8 cable without any
problems like what you're experiencing. Call me at: (512) 989-9634.
