help w/ intake mod

Hi,

I have an aging 94 Dak (110,000 miles and chugging) with the 3.9 V6 and I am
interested in making a "home brew air intake" for it. Could somebody please
help me with a "parts list" for this project? What will I need to put it
together? I know I'll probably need a different K&N, a cone shaped one, but
what else will I need?

Also, my engine pings like crazy at certain times, even with 93 octane.
(Like when you first mash the throttle starting up a hill in 2nd or 3rd
gear, lower RPMs, or in 4th or 5th on the highway when you depress the gas
pedal to accelerate some, or when you're just easing along with barely any
gas in 4th or 5th on the highway). Why? Will a 180 T-stat help? I know I
can't adjust the timing, so what's the deal? Is it a byproduct of my K&N
confusing the computer and changing the mixture?

Thanks for your advice,
Rob Cooley
