You might want to check the connectors that go to the PCM. Make sure there
aren't any bent pins or bad pins. The other thing the dealer can do is put
a portable scanner in your truck so it can pick up the problem when it
happens. It will record the incident and make it easier to diagnose.

Subject: DML: Sick Dak... from the beginning (Attn Bernd)
Hey Bernd, where you been, anyway! ;)
My "original" problem was bucking, stalling, dieseling, usually on the
decelleration end, but sometimes would happen at idle. I then tuned the
truck up with new Moroso plug wires, Autolite plugs, and a Borg/Warner cap
and rotor. No change with the problems of bucking, stalling, dieseling.
I diagnosed the problems as being a bad EGR valve/solenoid and a bad oxygen
sensor. (Had some help there from Tom at your shop, btw). Both were
replaced. The problem continued. I then took the truck back to a local
Dodge dealer, and they determined that it was the crank position sensor,
which was replaced. The problem continued. On return to the dealer, they
said the only thing they could track it down to was either a bad relay, or
the distributor plate. They said that they didn't want to just throw parts
at it, and switched the relay (for the injection system) with an air
conditioner relay, and said that if my air quit blowing or was intermittent,
that it was the relay. The problem continued, so I assumed that it must be
the distributor plate, which I replaced. Again, the problem continued. I
have also checked the "Kuzia curse" wiring splice, and the connection was
good.
This problem is pretty strange, and doesn't seem to be a hot/cold issue.
Sometimes it will do it just as I'm leaving the parking lot for work (after
sitting all night), and other times will do it after driving a good 30-40
minutes on the highway. Sometimes after dying it won't do it again at all,
other times it does it immediately. I'm at my wits end with this thing, and
not sure which way to turn. Even the dealer was pretty confused as to what
it might be, because they said it's not throwing ANY codes, even on their
DRB machine.
I forgot to mention that they did test the fuel pump, and it was within
spec. I checked my manual and it said between 31 and 39 psi was good, and
mine tested at 38 psi. The mechanic also said that the pump wasn't locking
up, but the problem was that the motor would lose juice all together.
Any ideas you can offer are greatly appreciated!
Later,
Brett Forehand
