Subject: DML: Attn AOL DMLers...
As many of you noticed, the DML was not working for AOL users over
the past 24-48 hours. I got a few e-mails from AOLers, but was unable
to return them due to AOL having blocked e-mail from our server. What
happened was that AOL's automated relay checker determined that we were
open to relaying, and put us in a "blocked" list. Its bad enough that
these 'net nannies have to engage in practices like this in the first
place, which only serve to hurt their own users, but their presumptions
were false in the first place! The data sent to me by their automated
checker was incorrect, and all attempts by me to clarify the situation
were unsuccessful. They didn't return my e-mail prior to the block, and
afterwards, I was unable to reach them by phone. I did some digging,
and I think I have come up with a solution to the problem. Looks like
its working, since mail to AOL is now going through, so the DML should
be working for AOLers now.
I would also like to take thie opportunity to echo the sentiments
of several other DMLers who recommended switching to a proper ISP.
;-) Chances are, your local ISP is cheaper and it would be almost
impossible for them to not have better service. Argh. :-P
We now return to our regularly scheduled program... Viva la DML!
