Why are running such a big exhaust system (meaning 3") for dual on a V-6?

you have tried most types, I wanna goto a dual exit at the rear of my truck.
I have a 98 v6, currently with dynomax flowthrough exhaust and 3" tailpipe.
looking at the cat-back from gibson, which I know you once ran, how does the
sound compare to dynomax?
I don't want it louder!
