Sure Neil, make me feel even worse :) I didn't dare take the truck out to
the car wash after limping home, and it's been in the shop the rest of the
week. I'm gonna need a chisel.

The best way to get this substance off with a garden hose is to go around
the truck wetting everything, letting the mud absorb water, especially in
all the crevices. (Wheel wells are the toughest) This gets the outer surface
soft. On the second pass with the hose the mud will start to drop off and
what remains underneath will begin to absorb water. Eventually the black
paint will begin to show through. After enough passes, it will be clean
enough to use soapy water and a wash mitt. Things like tonneau covers, the
outside mirrors, and all the other black plastic parts are really hard to
remove the last traces of brown "stain".
