Hi Bob - thanks for the concern. :-)
Yep, I did indeed get home OK, though by the time I did, the whine
had gotten louder, so at least I know I'm not imagining things. :-)
I checked everything out again, got the rear end up in the air on
jackstands, rotated the tires by hand, and I started it up and let it
idle in 4th gear. The whine was definitely noticeable, but hard
to pinpoint. I'm almost positive its coming from somewhere near
the pumpkin though. I used a mechanic's stethescope to listen
to various places (tranny, where the driveshafts meet, pinion,
axles, etc.) The loudest location was at the pinion, though I'm
not sure if that is the cause of the whine/howl or not. (Things
sound a lot different through a stethescope.) :-)
So anyway, since I've still got some extended warranty left,
I'll drop it off at the dealer. If they've got the Adam Blaster's
truck done, that could work out quite well - I'll just drive my truck
up and drive his back. :-)
