Cleaning the engine compartment

Any do's and don'ts with reguards to cleaning
the engine compartment?

I think that you'd want to
protect the any open element air intake
protect the alternator
protect the battery ( disconnect? )
protect the fuse box
slightly warm engine
low pressure spray

any thing else or anything wrong?
