I am 1/3 of Twisted Bits Internet Services (www.twistedbits.net), and
when we set that up, I had intended dakota-truck.net addresses to be
available to DMLers. The topic has never come up until now though
so more pressing matters prevailed, and I never got around to doing
anything with it. Back when Jack Snodgrass first registered the domain,
he was experimenting with giving dakota-truck.net addresses to DMLers,
but as far as I know they never really got into widespread use.
It would definitely be possible to do something like this. I can't
give them out for free unfortunately (there are two other guys who
have a financial stake in system resources, etc.) but I can probably
set something up fairly cheap. Maybe something like a forwarding only
address which would forward you@dakota-truck.net to whatever your actual
e-mail address is, for around $20/yr?
I could also do something more in-depth, like Mike mentioned above,
actual e-mail hosting where you get a pop3 account. This would
be more money, but not as much as the prices of the e-mail plans
listed at twistedbits.net, just because its not possible to
define aliases and such for dakota-truck.net addresses (since you
are sharing the domain with others).
Web hosting would also be available - you could have a URL like:
Any of the plans at www.twistedbits.net could be used on a
dakota-truck.net subdomain like the above. I've talked with
the other guys and they're OK with me giving DMLers a 10%
discount on any of our services.
I would also be able to use a portion of the proceeds of any of the
above to help out the DML.
So anyway, if anyone is interested in a forwarding address,
e-mail, and/or web hosting at dakota-truck.net, just give me
a shout with what you would like and I'll see what I can do.
