Hi Jim
The engine # for 64 Chrysler is stamped on the right side of the cylinder
block below the distributor. It can be up to 7 digits long.
i.e. V411210
V=1964
41=413 or 36=361 or 38=383 (all that were available in 64 Newport)
12=month of manufacture (could be single digit)
10-day of manufacture (could be single digit)
The VIN # in the early 60's doesn't tell you much.
It should be stamped & embossed on a stainless steel plate on the left front
door hinge pillar. It only tells make, series(model), year and assembly plant.
If your lucky it might have a body code plate. Again a stainless steel plate
under the hood somewhere 8-) Either on the fenders, the cowl or the radiator
cross member. This placement depends on assembly plant. . This may and I say
may have accessory codes. It should have Body, Paint and trim for sure. The
order code for 64 3 speed was "344"
