Hey Dave!
Good question, but I would not use water alone. The purpose of the clay
material is to pull off all of the airborne contaminates that are embedded
in your paint (brake dust, rail dust, over spray, etc.). Because of this,
the clay could scratch the clear coat of it is not lubricated. Water is just
too thin. Look at it this way, if you take a couple drops of water on your
finger and rub your fingers together, it doesn't take long for the water to
be displaced and your fingers are then rubbing together. Repeat that
scenario with a drop of soap. You see the point. I guess you could use
water, but you would have to keep the hose running while you are doing it.
It still scares me though.
Best of luck! I know you'll enjoy the results!

I just got my Zaino order in the mail the other day, haven't had time yet to
start doing it. I have a question about the clay bar, it says to lubricate
it with car wash, can I just use water? I've never used a clay bar before,
but I want to do the whole process and keep her looking like new, or even
better than new.
