I've got a ticking in my 2001 and I know what it is. This may sound weird
but it's the fuel vapor purge solenoid. I had Relocate it when I added the
Kenne Bell. Where I mounted it was on the firewall and it telegraphs the
sound into the cab. Crazy as it sounds you could have the same sound. It's
mounted on rubber and if it deteriorates it'll get loud.
