I've heard it works, but the reason your speedo dropped out is because on
Start, all power to the instruments is cut. If you turn your key to run,
and then turn on the radio and fan, you'll notice that for the instant that
the key's on Start to get the engine running, the radio and fan will die,
and then come back on when you release the key.
