Yep, that's pinging (pre-detonation) - sounds sort've like someone
shaking a coffee can full of marbles. :-) What's causing it is the
advanced timing of the Hypertech. That's good for more power, but
you need more ignition-resistant fuel and/or a cooler combustion
chamber.
Definitely run high octane (no need to go crazy, 92-94 should
do it) and seriously think about installing a 180 degree thermostat.
When I installed the Mopar PCM on my '96, I got pinging, even on 92-93
octane, but a 180 degree thermostat eliminated that.
Oh, and disconnect the hypertech until you are able to make those
changes - you don't want the truck pinging if you can help it! Its
not conducive to engine longevity. :-)
