William,
If that cylinder is running lean it will also misfire. Did you get the
pulse width info from the scan? A cylinder by cylinder injector
interrogation would tell you whats up with #8 @ WOT. If its a bad injector,
it might be hanging at a higher duty cycle... The HO motor has higher
compression as well as the stiffer cam so I would think you wouldnt be
pinging that badly by just using the cams. A scope can tell you if the
ignition coil is bad. An A/F reading can tell you if its too lean at WOT as
well. Id go that way before replacing anything yet! With the ping and the
misfire Im thinking its too lean... New injectors or a KB boostapump?
