how wide a tire can fit on 17x9 rims

Hey all,

 Just got back from DC and VA. Picked up a set of 17x9 R/T rims (thanks
chris). Anyway I was wondering how wide a tire I can put on the rims. I want
to get as big a traction patch as possible for the two rear tires, I think
I'll probably run a stock R/T size in the front.
