Don,
I was told by a tech that went to school on the 4.7L that the bypass
was used to give the heads time to warm up slower than the block due to the
fact they are aluminum. It gives a more even warm up in extremely cold
starting situations. Most of us don't live in the Artic, so it should not
bother most of us. Most of us give our engines time to warm up before we
start turning 6 grand with them. Bill
