Additionally, I changed the oil and filter a little early (2.5k miles,
Redline 10w30 and Wix), put a new distributor cap and rotor (brass)
on, and replaced the plugs (Autolite 3923s, .040").

Bottom line, I went from CO levels at ~6 times the legal limit to
passing. Goes to show that routine maintenance is important.
Also, I made the mistake of going back to factory spec Champions about
10k miles ago on the recommendation of the "Master Mechanic" at my
dealer. Back to Autolites now.
I live in a pretty dusty area, so I think that the K&N cleaning had a
pretty significant effect -- I'll do that more often.
The contacts inside the distributor cap were pretty severely encrusted
after ~14k miles; that probably reduced the spark enough to make a
difference.
