Hey gang,
just thought I'd drop a line and talk about what an awesome time I had
yesterday. The Don Garlits museum in Ocala is flat out awesome! More
history there than I ever imagined. All the cars I remember when growing up
Tom McCewen, Don Prudhomme, Shirley Muldowney, Connie Kalitta, Jungle Jim,
Chi-town Hustler, plus all the Swamp Rat you could eat! I was there with
TonyC and friends, and we didn't have time to see everything, because of all
the great cars on the show field.
Three words: Hemi, hemi, hemi! Two (count 'em, two!) Superbirds, one of
which was a hemi. Chargers, Cuda's, Super Bee's, GTX's and Road Runners,
Demons, Dusters, and yep... even some Dakota's.
We met a guy named Craig from Cocoa, FL. He owns the AAR style GenII Dak
that has pics on Marty's site (www.krcperformance.com). Nice guy, nice
Dakota, with a ton of mods. Wanna see gear heads flock to an area like a
moth to a flame? Watch Craig fire up his 408 stroker/Vortech blown Dakota!
Except for the occasional knucklehead that didn't know what a Vortech V-1
"race" blower is supposed to sound like. Ah, here's a quote... "sounds like
ya' got a bad bearing in there". Straight cut gears rock!!!
Don Garlits was running around on a golf cart (surprisingly, not
hemi-powered) signing autographs. He even signed all the show participants
trophies personally. How cool is that?
Anyhoo, just thought I'd rant about what a great time I had yesterday. If
you guys ever get a chance to go to the museum, do it!
Later,
Brett Forehand
