I remember a thread a few years ago also. Basically the same
symptoms. The person had been told he needed his transfer
case re-built. He had changed to Mobil-1 ATF I believe a few
months before. Once he changed back to Mopar 7176 Type3 and
drove a couple miles the problem went away. It would
certainly be cheap enough to give that a try. You MUST use
ATF 7176 Type 2 or 3 in the newer transfer cases.

It's never worked correctly since I got the truck.
Supposedly the dealer "serviced" it at 30k and 60k but I
doubt they could tell me what they did...

Barry,
Have you had the Transfer case serviced since the last
time you put it
in 4wd?
I remember Kyle was having problems with his not going in
gear and wanting
to jump out once it was in gear. I think he said something
about the oil
that he put in it was wrong. Hth, Hop

correctly, but all I
seem to be able to do is grind gears - even when I try to
shift as fast as I
can..
