    The following might not apply, because I am not familiar with
all of the engine block changes that happened between the LA family
and the '92+ Magnum line, however, I seem to recall reading something
about the water pump on the Magnums rotating in the opposite direction
as compared to the previous smallblocks. IF this is true, and IF
the water pumps actually interchange between the blocks, is it possible
that you received a "standard rotation" water pump designed for the
older motors?

    A long shot I know, but thought it might be worth investigating.
