Yikes, two dual posts in a day!!
[DML listers, read down to the original post - any Ideas?]

Bug, I have been on the Dakota mailing list for about 3 years and I don't recall seeing any posts about this "rear end hum" you speak of. I haven't checked out archives because I am at work. Our [dakota] mailing list is at: www.dakota-truck.net
The archives are accessable there too...

Honestly though, all other bashing aside if you are looking for a new
vehicle the Dodge Dakota's are really nice with the 4.7L V8.

Just beware of the dreaded "rear end hum" on the Dodges. They blow
rears like they're goin out of style. It got so bad that the dealer will
sell you a NEW rear end assembly, complete, for $1200 (less to a shop), which
is less than half of what comparable rears sell for for other trucks. This
is due to the high rate of failure and the cost of repair. My friend has a
`99 Durango and I am now installing the 3rd rear in it. First went at 45k,
now this one at 78k. Neither under warranty either. Another friend had a
`95 Ram 1500 that blew the rear at 12k, 40k and again at 90k. The first
failure seized up with almost no warning at 70mph and cause him to sideswipe
a guardrail after the rear wheels locked. Looking at Dodge message boards
you can see all the complaints of failed rears.
