Tried that a few years ago...the factory manifolds are very "dirty"
castings (lots of impurities in them). When the shop tried to TIG weld
a new plate onto a test manifold (also from a V6)...oil started to seep
from the manifold.
It's definitely easier to just bolt on a better plate.
