List,
My 92 Dak has a slight problem. First a bit of background info.
When I bought the truck in January, sometimes it would not shift into 4th.
All shifts were perfect, but no 3-4 shift. It didn't to it very often, but
maybe once a day. Then it went away comepletely. I can have it in 4th by 35
mph. It never did it again until the weather got cold again. As it got
colder, it got worse. Now it almost never goes into 4th. If I play with the
OD switch enough, I can get it to shift. I have ruled out the switch, as
when the switch is pushed the torque converter locks and unlocks. Fluid
level is correct, and fluid is not burned or have any bad smell. Fluid has
been changed every 24-36k.
Since I don't have a FSM, or any service book, I thought I'd pose the
question to the list before I head to the library.
Could it be time for a fluid/filter change? Is there an external sensor
which controls the 3-4 shift? I had a 94 Escort which did would not shift to
4th and that fixed it. Would disconnecting the battery to clear the computer
help? I don't know if that unit is computer controlled.
Drove it to VA two weeks ago and it only occurred once. Otherwise, it works
flawlessly.
All answers, suggestions, snide remarks, etc are welcome.
Unit is an A500.
TIA,
Jon
