I have both black carbon on the inside of the header pipe and 02 sensor.

a cleaner burning engine will self clean the O2/Cat with
heat at highway speeds. carbon burns off at 900/950 F
check the outlet (inside pipe) color on the exhaust after
a decent highway trip and the inside is the same :)
