To chime in..... I don't live in Ontario nor have I ever been there or
know anything about the laws there. What the problem I see with this law
is this. It targets the wrong part of the problem. You don't go after
the cars you go after the drivers. If, from your earlier post Steve, the
laws are way to lax then the citizens there need to force the lawmakers
to strengthen the punishments that these people get.

What ends up happening with what is supposed is, yes, in the beginning
they do what they say they will. Over the long term, though, the law
starts to be bent and be used wrongly to take away innocents peoples
rights. You say you want to build up your Dakota but from the earlier
post listing this law that would be illegal to do. How can they enforce
these kids this way and let you build up your Dakota? Doesn't seem to
work to me. Sounds like having your cake and eating it too.

In the long run laws like these end up hurting even the ones who wanted
them in the first place. You have to go after the problem and that is
the drivers. Start letting laws like this get passed and who knows what
else will be over the horizon disguised as something else.

A good example to goes right with this is gun control here in the
states. Yes, I believe that everyone should have a background check and
if you have a criminal history then you gave up the right to own a
firearm. On the other hand laws such as the one in parts of New York the
prohibit the sale of handguns is wrong. This is to stop violence with
guns but is illegal according to our Constitution. All that happens is
that criminals go underground to get weapons which take away more
opportunities for the authorities to trace them down when used in a
crime.

My 2 cents................

Absativalutely!! This is a huge problem in just about all areas
of government, from vehicle and traffic laws to gun control (especially
gun control!). We already have an over-abundance of laws on the books
which do not get enforced as it is. The last thing we need are more
laws, especially sweeping ones of this nature which infringe on the
rights of innocents while trying to target the actual lawbreakers.
This is probably yet another attempt to give the government more control

over their citizens' rights. Either that, or the lawmakers are
incredibly
stupid. (No doubt its a dangerous combination of the two.) I
especially like the "hunting a fly with a shotgun" analogy - Wayne hit
the nail on the head!
