The front track has been wider than the rear track on most vehicles for over
50 years.
This enhances the stability and even helps when driving down the road in a
straight line.
The first production vehicle in a long time to have a noticeably wider rear
track is the new four-wheel-steer Cheby pick-up.
This sticks the rear wheels out far enough to allow them to steer inside the
rear wheel wells.
