I don't plow with the Dak, but mine does see a fair amount of the white
stuff, and does, indeed, handle better in 4-hi rather than 4-low - with
agressive, studded snow tires all around.
I think you hit the nail on the head. It's just like sand - a little too
much torque, you'll be in a hole in no time.
