Jon,
       It's funny you mention the power steering. My old Turbo Toyota PU had
basically the same system. The faster you went, the more power steering fluid
was bypassed from the steering sector and the lower the pressure went. This
essentually gave you more feel in the steering wheel, at an excess of 100mph,
you had almost a manual steering.
       According to the FSM it used a sensor that was part of the ABS system
and a servo valve on the power steering pump bypass line. Worked great too.
