Gabe, if you are looking into a serious added HP & TQ levels, look for a
non-destructible rear axle system. With the next Dodge Ram SRT-10, they are
using the Dana 80 rear versus the 1500 rear axle system. On the new 03
2500/3500 Rams, they have these along with solid front axles and rack &
pinion steering. What a great match up Gabe. I hoping the next Dakota R/T
will get them also. These Dodge rear-ends are indestructible and well worth
the money. The down size is that they are 8 lug versus 6-lug on Dakotas or
5-lug on 1500.
However, this is my 02 cents, go for the Dana 80. You can find them at the
local salvage yards.

Subject: DML: RE: RE: power numbers
bernd, how much did the DANA rear-end cost you, and where did your get it?
also, did you change to a solid drive shaft (from out 2-part drive shafts)?
would you recommend that for a high HP/Torque engine?
finally, have you had any problems with your AX-15 with that much power
running through it? i know your truck is a daily driver, and i'm interested
in building something very similar to yours (with a possible stroker kit
added on).
i'm going to start on my truck when i have some money, and turn it into a
show truck.
thanks for your help (and eventual business!)

hey everybody...
along the way, i've been considering what i would need to fully develop
a killer V6 Dakota. now, i won't be making any major mods anytime soon,
but i am looking at what i can do down the road (as well as any special
deals that may come up).
with that said, does anyone know the maximum power that an 8 1/4 rear
end can handle? i am not sure exactly what i am going to put through
the rear end, but if i end up really bulking the engine up, i want to
know if i should look for a 9 1/4.
also, does anyone know the maximum power numbers that the AX-15 can
handle? i'm reluctant to pick up a shifter if i will have to change the
tranny out for an NV3500 down the road.
again, i need the numbers (preferably out of some manual or proven
numbers). i REALLY want to keep this truck matching #'s, so its very
important to me to keep these original components, but i'm more
concerned with making something that will hold up to the power i'll end
up putting down on the floor.
thanx,
